If there is one thing that I remember the most from my trip to Kenya, it was the beautiful and pure smiles of the children who were so content with life despite everything they had experienced at such a young age. I went to an orphanage in Nakuru, Kenya as a volunteer with an intention to give to the lives of the children there, but they actually challenged me and taught me that true JOY is not about what you have in your hands but Who you have in your heart!

Phillipians 4:4 says, Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Every time I read this scripture I am confronted in the same way that the beautiful children from the Sure 24 orphanage challenged me. It is so easy to rejoice in the Lord when life advances according to plan but do I really rejoice in the Lord always? Do I really rejoice in the Lord when everything seems to be going wrong or when I cannot understand why certain situations are happening?
Personally I believe it is a matter of trust. When we put our trust and our hope fully in the Lord and we know that he has a great plan for us (Jeremiah 29 v 11-12) then we are able to rejoice in all circumstances.
I don’t know about you, but I want to get to a stage where I am so confident in the Lord that nothing worries me. The children knew all about rejoicing in the Lord at all times even with an uncertain future facing them and I am amazed at how God used them to teach me to do the same.
