I have been asked to write a short passage for the “Presenters blog, and knew there was only one subject that I could really talk about with any real meaning, I could have tried to write something that maybe made you smile or even cry .I could try and write something to help you make your life better, or I could try and write something to fire you on to be a better person. I could try to give you tips on how to become richer, or I could maybe give you a heads up on how to stop sinning. I could, I could, I could, but I won’t, actually I daren’t. There is a life that we live that is a lie, pretence, a sham; it is as Solomon puts it “a chasing after the wind”. Romans 1:18 describes it as a place where the truth is suppressed in unrighteousness. There is only one truth and He has a name, Jesus. Everything else is a lie and subsequently not worth talking about in this page.
What is your life worth?
Your life has worth only when it is founded on the truth of God’s Word, the living Word; Jesus. Everything else is Worthless. The life that is lead without the truth has another name; death, we were once dead in our trespasses and sins, all of us like sheep had gone astray from the truth, it is only in returning to the overseer of our souls that we become whole, healed, brought back into the fold (Eph2:1, 1 Peter 2:25). What you may think is worth something must be measured by eternity. Will it stand the test? Many a Rolls Royce lies rusting in a scrap yard, and all rich men will die empty-handed. All of us have something which we value, even our family. Yet whatever we own, whatever our attachment, it must first be relinquished so that we can purchase the kingdom of Heaven, the pearl of great price.
What are you worth?
We are only worth anything when we are joined to the vine of life, the root of Righteousness. It is only by being joined to this vine that fruit (the measure of our worth) can be brought forth (John 15:1). You shall know them by their fruits and any tree that produces no fruit is worthy only to be thrown into the fire (Matt 7:16-20). There are churches today where the focus of the gospel is turned into a message of worldly prosperity, which succeeds only in making the gospel a means of death. Anything that promotes self worth ahead of selflessness and Seeking first the Kingdom, is based on a foundation that is not Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 3:11). It is only by realising that without God we are worthless, but that in turning to Him we become truly rich, “Having nothing and yet possessing everything” (2 Cor. 6:10).
Are you worthy?
Heaven has an entrance fee, a ticket if you will; it is called righteousness, goodness, perfection even. When asked “how good are you?” by what do you measure yourself? If you are a God fearing man or woman then you could use the Ten Commandments. If you are like me you wouldn’t get very far into them before you realised that you were a complete failure. If you don’t believe in the bible then what other measure can you use? What about your conscience? If I ask someone “Could you be a better person?” the reply is always the same “yes”. We are all going to stand before the judgement seat of Christ one day and give an account of our lives, our conscience will either defend or accuse us (Romans 2:15). When a rich young man asked Jesus what good thing must he do to get eternal life Jesus replied “...there is only one that is good” and that is God. Jesus ends this lesson by telling the rich young man to sell all that he owns and to follow him. There is only one act that a man can do to enable him/her to stand before God on that day with a clear conscience and that is to receive the ticket of righteousness by faith in the Son of God, the only one who was able to overcome death for all mankind. A free gift of grace that is available for anyone who believes that Jesus is Lord (Romans 10:9-13).
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”. John 14:6
